Our Story

As Life Goes On, LLC is a locally owned and operated family business founded on the belief that aging should be a beautiful, enriching, and fulfilling experience filled with dignity, comfort, and peace of mind.

The Duymazlar family has blended personal experience in care and real estate to serve families navigating the changes that come with age. Our father, Dr. Mehmet Duymazlar, immigrated to the US as an anesthesiologist, and our mother, Joan Duymazlar, is still an RN in her eighties. Erol Duymazlar brings a unique perspective of service to the aging as a certified age-in-place specialist, real estate developer, designer, and builder of housing for the aging — 55-and-older communities, accessory dwelling units, and more.

Growing up in a multicultural, multigenerational home with grandparents ever-present impressed upon us the significance of family-centered care as families navigate age. The Duymazlar brothers’ experience of delivering newspapers to residents of a nearby nursing home revealed stark differences in how people are treated when advanced age takes hold. A deep desire to make a difference in how folks live as they age led to As Life Goes On.

Holistic Approach To Care

How We Treat Our Residents

At As Life Goes On, we embrace a Montessori-inspired lifestyle, focusing on nurturing independence, purpose, and meaningful connections for every Resident. Our small home settings are the heart of our approach, offering the ideal balance of intimate community living and personalized care. With the best Caregiver-to-Resident ratio in the region, our attentive team ensures each Resident receives dedicated support tailored to their unique needs, creating an environment where every experience feels more like home.

In our boutique-style homes, everyone knows your name. Every interaction is personal, and every experience feels like home. From self directed medication supervision to thoughtfully planned activities, our spaces are alive with daily joy, engaging pursuits, and lasting friendships. Here, holistic care and small community design come together to enrich lives and help every individual thrive.

Our Holistic Approach:

  • Brain Healthy Nutrition
  • Aromatherapy
  • Music Therapy
  • Animal Assisted Therapy
  • Cultivating engagement in the activities of daily living

Our Approach To Assisted Living

What Is Assisted Living?

Assisted living bridges the gap between independent living and around-the-clock care, providing help with the activities of daily living that become more challenging as we age such as daily routines, medication reminders, and wellness while encouraging independence.

The As Life Goes On Difference

Each of our homes are curated to provide a unique, comfortable, welcoming place where residents feel a genuine sense of belonging. With thoughtfully designed living spaces and a dedicated, compassionate care team who treat every resident like family, we create a setting that is as comforting as it is supportive.

What inspired you to work in senior living?
As a youngster delivering newspapers to residents of a nearby nursing home, the poor conditions and low level of care struck me deeply. This was in sharp contrast to my own life in a vibrant, multigenerational home with my grandparents always close by.

Witnessing that disparity—how my own aging relatives lived compared to those in the institutional setting—impressed upon me a profound desire to see our aging population live better, with greater care and dignity. That feeling stayed with me, guiding my path as I aged and grew into my profession.

Drawing inspiration from a family legacy of medical professionals—including a father and brother who are doctors and a mother who is a registered nurse—I developed a deep appreciation for person-centered care. While I pursued a career in real estate, their whole-person approach, attention, and love for people stayed with me. This background sparked a question that continues to guide me: how can I help our loved ones live better as they age?

Driven by these deeply held family values and a desire to make a real difference, I began promoting small, family-oriented boutique care homes.

My mission is simple – to help folks live better ‘as life goes on’…

Director, Community Relations

Caralyn Russell

What inspired you to work in senior living?
My first experience with senior living was in high school. I ran an indoor lawn bowling activity at an assisted living home near my high school as part of an internship program. I loved the seniors – they all reminded me of being with my Grandparents. Since then, I’ve worked in many different industries from health insurance to experiential marketing, so it really came full circle for me when I began working in senior living again back in 2018.

What’s your favorite moment or tradition at our community?
My favorite moment so far was the “Nannie” baby shower we hosted for our Operations Director, Annemarie Jalbert. She had just become a first-time grandmother, and the staff and residents came together to celebrate with her. Watching the residents’ faces light up as Annemarie opened gifts for her granddaughter – holding up the tiny clothes with smiles and laughter all around was truly heartwarming. It was one of those moments that perfectly captured the sense of family we have here.

What do you find most meaningful about the work we do here?
I find meaning in the little moments. Sitting down with a resident to chat by the fireplace, sharing a good morning greeting with them as I come through the door. It truly is the little things.

What’s one thing you hope families feel when they walk through our doors?
I hope that they feel warmth and a sense of home. That is the goal. Plain and simple!

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love spending time with my husband and our two young children. We’re happiest outdoors – camping, taking the kids to the pump track, or getting together with friends who also have little ones. It’s my favorite part of life right now. In my quiet moments, I enjoy diving into DIY or craft projects around the house, and I can never resist a good day of thrifting or antiquing. I also love music and dancing!

What’s a fun fact about you that people might enjoy knowing?
Travel is one of my favorite ways to learn and recharge. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed visiting destinations including Central America, Australia, Amsterdam, France, Italy, and Switzerland. I also love exploring closer to home – California holds a special place in my heart, especially Lake Tahoe.

What’s something from your childhood that still brings you joy?
Old pictures! I have boxes of family photos, some that belonged to my great grandparents and beyond. I love the smell of them, and the stories that they tell.

Administrator, Johnson Creek Village

Christine Burdick

What inspired you to work in senior living?
I started in the business when I was 16 years old by taking a kitchen job in a very small assisted living home in my hometown. Despite being a kitchen aide I was able to spend a lot of time talking with the residents that lived in the home and got to know most of them enough  to feel like they were an additional set of family members. I found  their stories about their childhoods fascinating and in a sense educational learning about another time/ era. Stories like those you won’t get in a classroom.

What do you find most meaningful about the work we do here?
I find it most meaningful that we have successfully created an environment where the residents and their families truly feel at home in our community and know that they have placed  their loved one in an environment where they will be loved and cared for like family.

What’s your favorite moment or tradition in our community?
Every Halloween, staff will come to work dressed in costume and some of  the residents will also participate. We also have an annual Christmas party at Beaver Lake Lodge with a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus

What’s one thing you hope families feel when they walk through our doors?
That they get a sense that this is not just a community of people brought together for a purpose but we are truly a family

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Spending time with my two daughters, grandson, volunteering time raising money for a non profit 501c motorcycle organization serving veterans and awareness for POW/MIA

What’s a fun fact about you that people might enjoy knowing?
I have a love for Photography. I did some portrait work professionally for a short time but nature photography is a passion. I won 1st place recognition in an all state photography club contest.

What’s something from your childhood that still brings you joy?
Rewatching my favorite childhood movies or TV shows

Director, Operations

Annemarie Jalbert

What inspired you to work in senior living?
I was inspired to work in senior living because I genuinely enjoy serving senior citizens and their families. Having seen my own mother navigate Alzheimer’s Disease, I have a deep sense of compassion for families facing the difficult decision of placing a loved one in memory care.

What do you find most meaningful about the work we do here?
I find the most meaningful part of our work to be when residents connect with staff through meaningful interactions, whether it’s through activities, music, or social connections. When families walk through our doors, I hope they feel a sense of hope and a warm welcome, just like coming home.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, embarking on new adventures, and being with friends. In the summer, my husband and I love exploring new destinations throughout New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine on our motorcycles.

What’s something from your childhood that still brings you joy?
Something from my childhood that still brings me joy is going to the beach, swimming in the ocean, and eating fried dough!

Business Office Manager

Cheryl Lee Gilbert

What inspired you to work in senior living?
I have always been passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. After caring for my own mother, who passed away in 2014, I realized I wanted to continue helping others in a meaningful way.

What do you find most meaningful about the work we do here?
I love engaging with the residents and bringing smiles to their faces. Most importantly, it’s incredibly rewarding to make them feel loved and cherished through simple acts of kindness each and every day.

What’s your favorite moment or tradition at our community?
I especially enjoy celebrating the holidays with our residents. Whether it’s sharing festive treats, listening and dancing to holiday music, or making Christmas stockings for each resident, these moments create such a joyful atmosphere.

What’s one thing you hope families feel when they walk through our doors?
My hope is that families feel confident their loved ones are safe, well-cared for, and loved as if they were a part of our own family.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love taking walks in nature, spending quality time with my family and our three cats, practicing photography, and engaging in sketching and painting.

What’s a fun fact about you that people might enjoy knowing?
Beyond my role at JCV, I am a Wellness Coach for Weight Watchers. I also serve as Chair of the NHPBS Advisory Board and am a member of the Board Development Committee for LeadershipNH.

What’s something from your childhood that still brings you joy?
My love for holiday traditions, as well as the many life lessons I learned along the way.

Administrator, Beaver Lake Lodge & Pine Hill

Ana Falasca

Director of Nursing

Deb McElhill

What is your favorite moment or tradition in our community?
Each morning when I come to work and the residents are all at breakfast. I make my rounds around the table to say good morning to each of them. They smile and say good morning in their own special way. It’s then I know we are going to have the best day.

What’s one thing you hope families feel when they walk through our doors?
The one thing I hope families feel when walking through the doors is that they know we are all family and they are not visitors. I hope they know we love their loved ones and the entire staff are very involved in caring for their loved one. This is not just a job, this is their passion in life.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
Outside of Johnson Creek Village, I have a very busy life. My adult children, all 5 of them are adults, but I still refer to them as my “boys” and we are all close, not in distance, but in heart. I also have 2 “boys” but they have 4 legs and they are the love of my life as is my Maine Coon cat, the only girl I nurture.

What’s something from your childhood that still brings you joy?
My childhood favorite is Christmas and still is to this day. It is the art of giving to others that brings me the most joy. I also collect Snowmen, so far I have 104 of them. The number won’t stop there as we approach the Christmas holiday.

Gail Wallingford

Family of Resident

My dad stayed here for almost 3 years. Staff and management treated him like family. I cannot imagine having him stay anywhere else. We looked at other places (with him) and there were some nice places for him but this place fit perfectly as it was new and a very sociable environment which was his type of place. My sister will probably reviewing soon. Karen and Tony. Thank you for taking care of my dad!!

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I schedule a tour or learn more?

You can easily request a tour or contact our team using our contact form or by giving us a call.

Do you Accept CFI / Medicaid?

Yes. Subject to qualifications, assessment and availability, we do accept CFI / Medicaid toward resident fees in most of our homes.

Does My Loved One Need Assisted Living or Memory Care?

It’s a common and important question—and one many families ask earlier than they expect.

Assisted living is often the right choice when a loved one:

  • Needs help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, medication reminders, or meals
  • Is feeling isolated or struggling to manage safely at home
  • Has mobility challenges or a history of falls
  • Would benefit from daily structure, support, and social connection

Memory care may be more appropriate when a loved one:

  • Has a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia
  • Experiences frequent confusion, disorientation, or wandering
  • Struggles with short-term memory, judgment, or recognizing familiar people or places
  • Shows changes in behavior, mood, or safety awareness

In many cases, the difference comes down to memory-related safety and supervision needs. Memory care provides specialized programming, trained caregivers, and a secure environment designed specifically to support cognitive changes.

If you’re unsure, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself. We are here to help families understand the level of support that will best meet their loved one’s needs.

Are meals included in the monthly fee?

Yes. Your monthly fee includes three nutritious, chef-prepared meals each day, along with snacks and refreshments available throughout the day. Meals are thoughtfully prepared to support both enjoyment and nutritional needs, with accommodations for dietary preferences and physician-recommended diets whenever possible. Our Chef crafts our meal plans around a Mediterranean Heart Healthy Program enhancing our holistic approach to eldercare.

Can residents personalize their suites?

Absolutely. We encourage residents to make their suites feel like home. You’re welcome to bring your own furniture, hang pictures or artwork, and decorate your space in a way that reflects your personal style.

For the care of the suite, painting is not permitted, and we ask that proper, non-damaging hooks or hanging methods are used when displaying items. Any significant wall damage requiring extensive repair may be deducted from the security deposit.

Our goal is for every resident to feel comfortable, settled, and truly at home in their space.

What activities are offered for residents?

We offer engaging, meaningful activities across all of our homes, designed to support social connection, cognitive stimulation, and overall well-being.

At Johnson Creek Village, residents enjoy a robust, structured activities program with a full calendar of group events, wellness offerings, and social programming.

In our residential-style homes, activities take a more intimate, personalized approach. Residents participate in staff-led and small-group activities such as bingo, word games, music, crafts, and family-style gatherings. Programming is flexible and often tailored to residents’ interests, abilities, and daily rhythms.

Regardless of setting, our focus is on creating opportunities for connection, purpose, and enjoyment—while honoring each resident’s preferences and comfort level.

Do you offer respite or short-term stays?

Yes, we provide several respite options. We understand caring for an aging loved one takes a level of commitment that can be overwhelming and stressful. You take a well-deserved break, and we’ll take care of the rest.

Short term stay up to 30 days. Options and rates vary from home to home.

Ask about our Respite Club Membership Programs for discounts.

What is Holistic Care?

Holistic care is an approach that focuses on the whole person, not just physical needs. It recognizes that well-being includes emotional, social, mental, and spiritual health in addition to medical support.

In practice, holistic care means:

  • Supporting physical health through personalized care, nutrition, and wellness
  • Nurturing emotional well-being through meaningful relationships and compassionate caregiving
  • Encouraging social connection, purpose, and engagement
  • Honoring each individual’s personal history, preferences, routines, and values

By caring for the whole person, holistic care helps residents feel supported, respected, and truly at home—while promoting dignity, comfort, and quality of life.

What is the Montesorri Inspired Lifestyle?

The Montessori-Inspired Lifestyle is a person-centered approach to memory care that focuses on preserving independence, dignity, and purpose at every stage of cognitive change.

Rather than doing things for residents, we support them in doing things with us—at a pace and level that feels comfortable and achievable. Daily life is designed to engage remaining abilities and strengths, not focus on what has been lost.

This approach emphasizes:

  • Familiar routines and meaningful roles that create a sense of purpose
  • Hands-on activities that support cognitive engagement and motor skills
  • Choice and independence whenever safely possible
  • Respect for each resident’s history, preferences, and lifelong skills

By creating an environment where residents feel capable, valued, and involved, the Montessori-Inspired Lifestyle helps reduce anxiety, encourage connection, and promote a greater sense of well-being.

What is the Caregiver Relief Club (CRC) Membership?

To better meet the needs of caregivers we’ve developed a membership program that offers flexibility, certainty and savings. Joining the Club entitles you to all the benefits of our normal respite care, but at a significant discount. Additionally, you get the flexibility of dropping your loved one off for as little as an hour anytime throughout the year. Call or email us for more details about this opportunity.
